Just got picked out of thousands of people from all over the world to go down and spend 7 days and nights with Bruce Swedien in his studio, and learn from the best about recording and mixing. There were 10 of us picked, it will be a one on one teaching in his studio in Ocala, Florida. As you know Bruce did the mixing and recording of Michael Jackson’s albums and so many others, what a great blessing to happen. I’ll be posting how things went.
Aloha Bob
This incredible machine was built as a collaborative effort between the Robert M. Trammell Music Conservatory and the Sharon Wick School of Engineering at the University of Iowa. Amazingly, 97% of the machines components came from John Deere Industries and Irrigation Equipment of Bancroft , Iowa.. Yes, farm equipment! It took the team a combined 13,029 hours of set-up, alignment, calibration, and tuning before filming this video but as you can see, it was WELL worth the effort. It is now on display in the Matthew Gerhard Alumni Hall at the University and is already slated to be donated to the Smithsonian.
May 14, 2009 Henry Kapono started working at Grace Recording Studio on songs for his up coming CD. It has been a real joy to work with Henry and be inspired by his work, he is a gifted musician as well as a really nice man to be around his songs will fill you with his aloha.
We welcome Jeff Hendrickson, my good friend to our studio staff. Jeff is a great, gifted engineer who has worked at several world class studios, a few of which include The Power Station (currently Avatar) and Right Track in New York City, Fantasy Recording Studios in Berkeley CA., The Record Plant in Sausalito and Los Angeles, One on One Recording Studios, as well as A&M Recording Studios.
Jeff is a Grammy nominated engineer who has sharpened his skills with some of the best producers and engineers in the industry, such as Ted Templemen, Bob Clearmountain, Neal Dorfsman, Scott Litt, and Eddie VanHalen. Jeff served as first engineer with Rod Stewart, Bette Midler, David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar, Aerosmith, Lyle Mays, Michael McDonald, Robert Cray, Jon Bonjovi, Cheap Trick, Robben Ford, and Carly Simon just to name a few.
Jeff, we love you brother and can see some fun projects in our future.
We just spent the day working with Woody Harrelson doing the narration for the documentary movie “The Doors”. The movie is based on how the band got started playing music together, the ups & downs of the 1960’s drug culture and the fame that came their way so quickly. The band endured such pressure on there lives and it ended in total tragedy with the death of Jim Morrison and the breaking up of “The Doors”. For those of us who lived through this era, this is going to be a great movie.
Woody, it’s been fun! Keep playing your piano, and we’ll jam together again.
Aloha!
